How to get a page indexed by Google 0
I’ve covered in other articles how to get your site indexed by Google. This strategy deals with situations where you have control over the server and can upload a sitemap for Googlebot to crawl.
But what about pages where you don’t have control over the server? This is a great question, given the popularity of article writing sites like Squidoo or Hubpages. Even Blogger often will not get its pages indexed in a timely manner without a little outside help.
Here’s how to get your third party page indexed by Google. Follow as many of these techniques as you have the time for.
- Find a site (or invest in building one of your own) that gets crawled by Google frequently. WordPress blogs are great for this, because they are generally configured to “ping” the major blog-crawling bots to take a look at your new content. Then post an article on that site with a link to the page you want indexed. Alternately, you can put a link to the new page in the footer or sidebar (i.e., blogroll), but the contextual links within content are best if you have the time.
- Use social media to bookmark your new page from other sites. I frequently use Digg.com and Stumbleupon, but there are dozens of high-traffic social media sites that can be leveraged to get your page indexed.
- If your page is part of an aggregated feed (such as an author’s feed), use another frequently crawled site to import that feed’s headlines and intro text. If you have a WordPress blog, you can place an RSS widget into a sidebar and paste your feed URL into it.
- For any sites that you have control over, and which also have links to your targeted third part page on them, submit a sitemap to Google’s Webmasters Tools. This will queue your site to be crawled by Googlebot in fairly short order.
In most cases, you can get your Squidoo or Hubpages content indexed by Google within 24 to 48 hours, depending on which combination of the above resources you have at your disposal.
Case study
I recently wrote a page on Hubpages about New San Antonio Homes. As of the time of this posting, the page is not indexed, so I will follow the tips outlined above and post the results.
